The first week of camp for Merrowvista’s Session A is wrapping up with tremendous excitement, concluding the first round of interest groups. Interest groups are a core component of summer programming at Merrowvista. Each week, campers choose two to three interest groups that appeal most to them, then return to those activities four times that week. Interest groups allow youth to connect with others while challenging them them try new things. Activities on offer change each week and range from pottery and woodworking to sailing and waterfront activities.

Archery has been an extremely popular interest group for many years. This year is no exception, with many campers getting bull’s-eyes.

 

The first specialized interest group offered at the waterfront this session was paddleboarding. After a brief safety instruction from the waterfront staff, participants worked together to team lift the boards to the beach, where each camper was properly fitted with a personal flotation device before heading onto Dan Hole Pond.

 

 

Excitement increases as we head into the next round of interest groups, with longtime camp favorites like sailing and woodworking being offered to the whole community.

Interest groups are a perfect place for youth to make new friends as they are made of campers of all ages. With new friends made in these groups, you’ll find plenty of campers creating new friendship bracelets.
