Hello everyone! My name is Audrey, and I am the waterfront coordinator this summer at Merrowvista. This past week, the waterfront has become a focal point of camp activities, and it has been amazing to see Dan Hole Pond fill with smiling campers.
Our days start early with Go Getters at 7:45 a.m.. Many campers use this time to hop into the lake, with some kids challenging themselves with a distance swim. After breakfast, the waterfront is full for interest groups. Many kids have taken to sailing, spending their time learning the basics with instructors and then heading out on their own with their “Merrowvista skippers licenses.” We’ve also had paddleboarding and kayaking interest groups explore our beautiful Dan Hole Pond. On a hot day paddleboarding, yoga, and jumping into the lake have become very popular.
Swim lessons are also off to an amazing start thanks to our swim coordinator, Jillian. Kids are having fun learning how to swim through instruction and games, with many of them choosing to come back down during their free time (called Your Time) to keep practicing. Especially with the high temperatures in the valley this week, Your Time has been full of campers swimming to the raft, jumping off the dock, and chasing after minnows in the shallow end.
We also had a special Fourth of July Beach party this week. There was music, games, and even a sweet treat! Campers, leaders, and Camp Director Katsu Okuma all had a blast jumping off the raft and enjoying the holiday. The past week has been amazing at the waterfront, and I look forward to many more this summer at this special place.
