Hello Miniwanca family! We had an amazing day here on the dunes beside Lake Michigan. We began our morning by gathering in the Hollow where Cabin 23 led us in the Star Trekkin’ rocketgizer to get us going and then reflected on the topic of the day: Imagination.
We headed from there into a continental breakfast with bagels, hard boiled eggs, and a fruit salad. Breakfast also brought us more information about what sorts of responsibilities we all take part in to keep our community going. The Trails helped “cruise”, set the tables. The Ridges cleaned up the eating area by clearing the tables and sweeping the floor. The Dunes washed the dishes. Tomorrow we’ll rotate and each Quad will have a different job.
The rest of the morning was full of swim assessments, cabin photos, and conversations about how to make our summer fun and safe. We then headed in to one of our favorite lunches: grilled cheese and tomato soup! The campers got to enjoy some Rest Hour after lunch and then headed to Assembly where the LITs and other staff entertained them. From there campers headed to their Interest Groups! Some headed to Stony Lake for sailing, paddle boarding, and swimming. Others headed to the high ropes course for some climbing. More headed to the Crafthouse for crafting or the Hollow for soccer or the beach for swimming. All in all, it was a perfect afternoon.
After our Interest Groups and snack time, we got some Free Time to choose what to do. Many campers opted to play in the waves and warm water of Lake Michigan today. After an hour of fun, we all made our way to the Eating Lodge for a tasty dinner of chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, corn, and salad. As dinner and clean up ended, the bell rang to call everyone to Night’s Doings. Tonight we played Wacky Olympics, where the campers moved from game to game with their sister cabin having a wacky, fun time!
We ended the night watching the sun set as Cabin 11 shared their thoughts on our theme of the day. Now the campers are headed to sleep to prepare for anther day at Miniwanca.
