Four Trails Update – Transitions and New Adventures
July 13, 2019

As we move into the final week of camp for Session A, it’s become a time of transition for Four Trails. Today, Explorer girls embarked on their final adventure of the session (cycling) and tomorrow we’ll say goodbye (for now) to our Voyageurs. Here’s the breakdown:

After an eventful week on-trail, our Trailblazer campers are ready to spend another exciting week in camp. Today, many of them went sailing at the waterfront for interest groups and for free time. In girls camp the night’s doings is lip sync battle and at boys camp they’ll be a doing a talent show. The trailblazers will be joining in and having a wonderful night before heading to evening reflection.

Explorers came back to camp and are now all out on new adventures. Our explorer girls departed today for the cycling tour of nearby Ludington and Pentwater. They’re staying near nearby Rothbury, MI tonight and will start their short trek northward tomorrow. Their shakedown yesterday was an incredible success—ice cream from Country Dairy included—and they were super excited to get out on the road this morning. Explorer boys are on their third day of canoeing down the Manistee River. Tonight they’ll be staying at a primitive campsite along the river. We heard from the trip leaders that yesterday was an amazing day on the river. It was really warm and sunny so they went swimming a couple of times to stay cool. Unfortunately, cell service isn’t strong enough to send photos but check the SmugMug after their return!

Our Adventurer campers continue their adventure as they ease into the final days of their trips. In the next two days, our returning campers may start to notice some of the same sights they’ve seen before as they approach camp from the north. Our girls explorer groups reached amazing heights today as they crested the top of Arcadia Hill—a hill near Arcadia, MI that many of our adventurers remember well for being the most difficult hill of their trip. The boys group will take on Acadia hill tomorrow, but for much of today they enjoyed the beauty of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore before continuing south on their journey.

Voyageurs leave for the Georgian Bay tomorrow morning! We couldn’t be more excited. Today has been a preparation as we have been packing final gear and loading boats for the big journey. Tonight the Voyageurs will be reflecting on the significance of their journey and tomorrow morning they’ll head out of camp around lunch time. If you have mail that you’d like to send to your camper for them to receive during their re-ration, please send it to the Miniwanca address with your camper’s name included!

Our Odyssey campers are officially in Canada and are enjoying the rolling hills of Ontario as they move toward Niagara Falls and their reentry into the US. After enjoying a short rest near Marine City, MI, the groups took a ferry across the border and began cycling to their next campsite. They’re getting excited for July 16th when they’ll arrive at their next mail drop location. Please send mail to the following address:
