Community and School Programs Facilitator Internship

Help support hundreds of school and community group based youth through the fall in experiential and outdoor education residential trips. The training program is all-inclusive, so previous facilitation experience is not required. Beneficial experience can include ropes courses, environmental education, summer camps, outdoor programs, and/or wilderness medicine certification.

Program Area Specialists

Program Area Specialists are seasonal youth development professionals who support the camp program by leading swim lessons, teaching arts and crafts, instructing climbing and more.

In-Camp Leader

In-Camp Leaders (summer camp counselors) are seasonal youth development professionals who co-lead a cabin group of 10 to 12 campers and are active leaders in daily activities. In-Camp Leaders work directly with youth and help them discover their best selves.

Four Trails Leader

Four Trails Leaders (summer camp counselors) are seasonal youth development professionals who co-lead a cabin group of 10 to 12 campers during backpacking and/or canoeing trips off-site and on Merrowvista property. Trips may be 2 to 17 days in length.

Coordinators

Seasonal coordinators prepare and implement summer programming, including in-camp programming for Pioneers and Seekers, the Four Trails program, and waterfront activities. They also supervise teams of village leaders and program specialists.

Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a safe waterfront during activity blocks, early morning exercises, evening all-camp games, camp carnivals and more.

Photography Specialists document the daily activities at camp with an eye to the AYF’s year-round marketing and communication needs.

Communications and Office Specialist

Communications and Office Specialists write daily blog posts, create frequent social media posts, assist with camper family email communications, and write longer articles for the AYF monthly email newsletter. They also assist with daily incoming and outgoing mail and packages, organize and distribute camper family emails, and answer phones.

The Food Program Team consists of assistants, specialists, and coordinators who help with food preparation, service, kitchen clean-up and dish washing to ensure healthy, safe meals for the staff and campers.

Facilities Assistants help in the maintenance and upkeep of the Merrowvista facilities and grounds during the summer season as part of the Facilities Team.

Scout Village Leader

The Scout Leaders develop and implement a discovery day program for children of camp staff (generally pre-camp, potentially ages 1 to 7), some evening duties may also be required as the needs of the program dictate.

The Health Team is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of each camper. The primary functions of the Health Team include providing first aid care, overseeing the administration of medications to campers, coordinating visits to a physician when needed, monitoring health and cleanliness standards, and keeping camper medical records organized.

Rhyolites

Rhyolites work as leaders in training, gaining skills in a variety of camp roles. During two-week sessions, the Rhyolites are paired with cabin leaders to lead a group of young campers. In the remaining weeks, Rhyolites engage in and support the in-camp community and develop new skills by working with various camp teams.
