Remembering Jean Booker

Jean Booker was a committed educator and fervent advocate for youth. Over her years with the AYF, she was the driving force behind efforts to give equal access to AYF programs for young people of color, and to grow year-round programs at Merrowvista and Miniwanca.
She passed away on March 3, 2018 at the age of 91.
Jean became part of the AYF family in 1943 after attending the National Leadership Conference at the encouragement of her English teacher. She was a conference graduate in 1946 and held a variety of leadership roles at Miniwanca for the remainder of the 1940s. Serving as Merrowvista’s camp director from 1955-59, Jean was a committed mentor, director, and Advisory Committee member for the next 15 years. Starting in 1976, she served on the AYF’s Board of Directors until her retirement in 2010.
Jean’s Celebration of Life will be held on April 7th at:

Visitation will be at 1 pm, followed by the celebration at 2 pm.
