Rainy weather woke Miniwanca this morning, but the sun pushed through the clouds this afternoon to welcome our campers with rays of joy! After making their way through registration tables in the Upper Tipi, campers gathered with their cabins to play get-to-know-you games or to start the summer’s first friendship bracelet. Families arrived in cars throughout the afternoon, shuttles arrived from the airport and the St. Louis bus pulled in ahead of schedule at 4:30 pm. Once all were here, the Pipers, Juniors, Avail and Four Trails campers enjoyed activity rotations: sharing songs and playing jeopardy with the Leaders In Training (LITs), playing icebreakers in the hollow, and exploring Eating Lodge routines. Before heading to dinner, all the campers began working on their cabin skits or songs for Tribal Council tomorrow night– we can’t wait to see what their creative energy will produce!
After a delicious dinner of spaghetti, garlic bread and broccoli, campers signed up for the Interest Groups they will attend for the week. With a huge range of choices including Paddle Sports, Craft House Medley, Yoga, Archery, and Reading with a View, campers had to make some tough decisions! Campers made their way to the outdoor amphitheater in the Assembly for Opening Night leader introductions, Roll Call of the States, and the big reveal of tribes and tribal leaders. We have campers from 22 states and 9 countries in Girls Camp this session!
Now campers are back in their cabins preparing for bed and having cabin chats where they will make a cabin Recipe for Success. Our Trailblazers, Explorers and Adventurer trips are taking a look at the session ahead and talking about the challenges they’ll undertake in the next three weeks. Camp is filled with the energy of so many familiar faces and bright new friends who are coming together to live at their best.
Now that Miniwanca’s campers have arrived, let the summer begin!
