Our First Opening Day

Girls Camp, Miniwanca, Opening Day

Today is the day! With blue skies and warm breezes off the lake, we welcomed 144 campers to Girls Camp for the opening of Summer 2019. Campers checked into the Upper Lodge welcomed by music, bubbles, and ecstatic leaders. Cabins soon were filling up with sleeping bags, trunks, decorations, and excited campers.

After the campers settled in, they began mingling throughout Downtown Miniwanca. There, they explored the Craft House, caught up with old friends, and played games in the Hollow. Later, campers enjoyed a delicious dinner of pasta, garlic bread and roasted broccoli. The in-camp campers rushed into the Upper Lodge to register for Interest Groups, fun activities they will take part in throughout the week that range from the Mosaic Making to Sailing on Stony Lake to Lake Michigan Beach Time to Map Making and so much more.

At the sound of the bell, campers ventured their way down to the Council Circle where they learned whether their cabin was part of the Dunes, Draws, Ridges, or Trails and performed creative cabin introduction cheers. After Council Circle, campers made their way to cabin chats to bond and learn about what their summer will have in store.

Our first opening day of the summer was as beautiful as the Miniwanca sunset! We are so thrilled to look forward to the rest of the summer and all it will bring.
