Merrowvista Four Trails Update July 27, 2016

Madison village returned this afternoon from a terrific bike shakedown to Skelley’s! Tomorrow, they will depart for their trip around the Lakes Region, right on the heels of Flag village. Speaking of which, it was a hot day of biking for the Flag women, but they cooled down with some ice cream earlier this afternoon and biked on with smiles. Katahdin set sail on Lake Aziscohos after a record-breakingly swift departure from camp this morning. Tomorrow, they’ll be making their way to Beaver Island, a cozy campsite near the lake’s Southern shore. The Liberty ladies set off for the Mahoosucs today! Their van driver, Keanan, has a fondness for smooth jazz that is not shared by the group – but rest assured, we hear he switched up the playlist to include some pop jams. Tomorrow, they’ll cross the border into Maine on trail.

The gentlemen of Shaw summited Bigelow Mountain today  and enjoyed some spectacular views at the top. It was a blue-sky day with cottony clouds, another perfect day of hiking weather. Chocorua has traveled by both land and sea today on the ferry to Portland! Word is the ferry trip was absolutely beautiful. Both our adventurer groups will be returning to camp tomorrow – we can’t wait to see them.

Our dear Voyageur Women enjoyed some free time – and some Nanaimo bars – in Chester yesterday. They also celebrated a birthday in style. They’re continuing their way up the Southern coast, going wherever the road calls them.  The Voyageur Men are spending  the night in Cape Chignecto Provincial Park. Tomorrow, they’ll be heading on to the Joggins Fossil Cliffs, a UNESCO world heritage site where they can see a fossil record of life from over 300 million years ago. Not too shabby!

And Odyssey is… hiking, as you might expect! Tonight they’ll be sleeping at Wilson Valley Lean-To, after crossing a few streams and some railroad tracks. The wilderness  can be full of quiet surprises – we’re sure they’re loving it.
