Help campers Gear Up for summer 2023

American Youth Foundation summer programs kick off in less than 100 days, and participant families are already preparing for Opening Day. Amid the flurry of health forms and handbooks, they’re also taking stock of extensive program packing lists.

The AYF is committed to making summer camp and conference accessible to as many youth as possible through financial aid and scholarship. However, program tuition is not the only cost associated with summer camp. For some, adequate gear can be difficult to obtain.

“The cost of a sleeping bag should never stand between a camper and the magic of Miniwanca or Merrowvista,” said Director of Development Jessa Glick.

Miniwanca and Merrowvista each keep a stock of supplies on hand for those who need it, and spring means it’s time to stock the shelves.

The AYF is asking its community to help alleviate some of these costs to families through its Gear Up for Camp online equipment drive. Gear Up for Camp kicks off today, March 24, and runs through April 30.

Supporters can purchase items like headlamps, rain gear, and more from the Gear Up for Camp wish list on Amazon. The products will be shipped to the AYF office in St. Louis, where they will be inventoried and distributed to both sites.

If preferred, donors can also provide a financial gift to the AYF to support the greatest needs as summer 2023 approaches.

“Gear Up for Camp will ensure that all summer camp and NLC participants feel prepared, safe, and comfortable from the moment they arrive at Merrowvista and Miniwanca” Glick said. “We’re grateful for our dedicated supporters and alumni, who continually show us the power of our community. Together, this commitment transforms AYF programs into places where everyone feels and is welcome and included.”
