Four Trails Update July 10th

Chocorua biked around camp today in preparation for their bike shakedown tomorrow. They’ll head out of camp for the day, grab lunch at a nearby market, and return to camp having practiced all the skills they’ll need for their Lakes Region bike trip. They’ll head out on their trip on July 12th, and we know they’re going to have a wonderful time lake-hopping through the local area. Also gearing up for the bike trip is Madison village who had their bike shakedown this afternoon and returned in high spirits, ready for their departure tomorrow morning. They had ice cream with lunch, which always puts a smile on the faces of campers (and leaders, for that matter).

In the morning, Shaw had some “FUN, FUN, FUN” playing the Swedish game of Brann Ball! They set sail on Dan Hole Pond for their shakedown this afternoon, in anticipation of their canoe trip tomorrow. They are patiently awaiting calm days and cool nights on the river.

Jefferson departed Merrowvista this morning for their canoe trip. We were astounded by their efficiency in packing out of camp, as they had their dry bags AND canoes packed and loaded before breakfast, hear hear! Tonight they are staying at Diamond Peaks campsite on the Magalloway River. We hope the bugs stay away!

Katahdin village returned from Vermont today in incredibly high spirits. They rolled into camp with their Vermonster bucket in hand, ready for a relaxing dinner before diving into a rowdy game of dodgeball. Also returning to camp today was Nesuntabunt village, who spent the final morning of their walk in the woods hiking Sugarloaf Mountain, before meeting up with their driver and making it back to camp in time for dinner. Sugarloaf is often the highlight of the Adventurer hiking trip and they had wonderful weather and were able to see the expansive views from the summit.

Flag village spent the afternoon with Rob and Connor, our bike mechanics, at the bike shop. They’re preparing to bike up the coast of Maine to Booth Bay. They also spent the day preparing to lead Evening Reflection. They spoke on the ways in which their camp experience can be brought back home with them before offering time for the whole community to reflect on how our lives at camp affects their lives back home.

Voy Men are cruising their way up the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Currently in Lunenburg, we have been hearing whisperings of a century day in the near future. Wolfville, here they come!

Voy Women have persisted through challenging stoves and frustrating bike problems, but their spirits are high as could be! They have already begun their return trip toward the South Shore, headed toward Lunenburg tomorrow!

Odyssey had their first sight of Mount Katahdin yesterday from White Cap Mountain and they are excited for the trek ahead. They enjoyed their resupply today, complete with mail from home and some delectable cake! Flat-ish terrain ahead.
