Creating Our New Community

“The world is shaped by two things — stories told and the memories they leave behind.”

― Vera Nazarian, Dreams of the Compass Rose

Today began the first full day of Session B here at Miniwanca Boys Camp.  Excitement and anticipation filled the cool, morning air.  “Creation” was our theme for today.   The campers were tasked with discussing the question, “What kind of community would they like to create here at camp?”

Cabins have been created and have started the bonding process.  Quads were created today along with Quad cheers, building pride and comradery.  Expectations for a Fun, Safe Summer helped create form and predictability among campers as we rounded out the morning.

Camp favorite, grilled cheese sandwiches were prepared for lunch by our wonderful food program staff, as well as a full salad bar.  Rest hour helped everyone recharge, and the afternoon took us to our first interest groups of the session.  Campers began projects in woodshop and craft house, and built skills in sailing and archery.

Our day of creation concluded on the sands of Baldy for Evening Reflection.  The stories campers created today will continue to build throughout the session.  The memories will last a lifetime.
